My husband has a kidney stone and had already been to the Emergency Room once when he then learned what was wrong.  Five days later, the day before a Urologist appt., he had another attack that lasted for over 4 hours with doubled-over pain and throwing up.  We made another trip to the same Emergency Room  for some much needed relief to only find ourselves sitting for over 5 hours to never be seen by not even a nurse AFTER being called to a room.  My husband and I overheard another patient who had been throwing up on herself and her bedding in her room and had never been helped by a nurse.  She had been waiting in her room for over 4 hours.  My husband decided to leave after hearing other patients who were having similar experiences since we had already waited for so long.  He confronted a nurse who in turn found the doctor to have him come to our room to only tell us it was our decision to stay or go.  We had seen several others walk into the waiting room alone, to go through triage, be called into a room, and leave within a short period after while others were in obvious pain in the waiting room to only be ignored.  My husband confronted the doctor with this information only to be yelled at and then cussed at.  I asked him to please not cuss in front of our children, 6 and 9, and he got mad and walked out of our room fussing.  He claimed to be stressed out due to the volume of patients that night, but we overheard a nurse tell others who were waiting that the doctor was choosing who he wanted to see.  This, I believe, is highly inexcusable and very rude. I feel he should have some type of action taken against him after our experience at the Emergency Room that night.

Roto Rooter charged me $4,500 to tear out all of the polybutylene pipe in my house and replace it with PEX. The propoposal was in response to a leak I had in my bathroom that ruined the ceiling in my downstairs powder room. The plumber showed up to fix the leak but instead, goated me into a whole house repair for nearly 5 grand. I agreed. God am I sorry. They tore out the old pipe and installed the new pipe, but forgot to clamp several of the joints. They didn't test the line with air. They just sent the water through and in 10 seconds turned my entire house into a water park amusement ride. I was screaming like a maniac for them to get out of my house and to stop the water. In the course of doing so, one of the plumbers fell through my attic ceiling. He came right the heck through all of the way. Can you spell law suit? I'm going to make them sorry they ever came to my house

WOW!! ROTO - ROOTER SCORES AGAIN - On Saturday June 31, 2007, I had Roto-Rooter come out because my bathtub and toilets backed up and flooded part of my house. When the guy shows up, I told him the problem and explained that I had been plagued with this problem since I moved in Sept. of 2005. I had rented rodders 3 times to no avail, and told him I thought that it was time to hire a "professional". He asked if I wanted a six month warranty, which was an extra charge, he then told me the cost of the job before even looking at my problem. I then took him outside to the clean-out pipe, and he was shocked about how far it was from my house. He then proceeds to snake out the pipe, he was finished in 20 minutes, and tells me he pulled out feminine napkins, and I told him they were not from me, I don't use them and even if I did, I know better. I him I started having problems immediately after I moved in and they were probably from the previous owner. He then hands me the receipt, tells me that feminine products will! void the warranty that I bought, and he leaves. On August 4th, 2007, again the same problem, so I call Roto-Rooter again, the same guy came out, and he did the exact same thing, he even again exclaimed about how far the clean-out pipe was from my house; I then asked him if he was sure that the problem was back there instead of closer to my house, because he can only go 100 feet to my house as was stated on my receipt, and my house is further than that, or maybe even a totally different plumbing issue, the only response I got was that he didn't know, and next time he came out he would check it out with a camera. He was there maybe 15 minutes, and again he just snaked out the back pipe. He said he pulled out feminine napkins again, and I said you mean still. He did not charge me for this service call since I had the warranty. On August 11, 2007, again the same problem. I called Roto-Rooter, but they said that the warranty is only good for one rodding, which was not explained to me; I explained that I felt the job was not done correctly either time, and contacted who I was led to believe was the supervisor. She sent a different person out who wanted to charge me for another rodding at $299.00, again just snaking it out, so I told him to leave. The supervisor was again contacted and she said she would have someone out on Thursday August 23 or 24, 2007. No one showed up; on Saturday August 25, 2007 I received a very rude phone call from Roto-Rooter saying there is no way that they will come out free of charge, he proceeds to tell me that not only will they charge me for a rodding at $299.00, but that they will now require a camera check for over $249.00. I told him that the supervisor led me to believe differently and I gave him her name, and he proceeds to tell me that she is not a supervisor. I still have continual back-up problem, the "supervisor" is not answering any of my calls. I now have to replace my sonís carpet due to water damage. I also found out through E-mailing Roto-Rooter's web site, that they do not charge for their warranty. Their warranty is usually for 6 months, so what I think I actually purchased, which was not indicated to me, was an extended warranty. I would not have purchased this if I had been told of an automatic guarantee. I believe I was taken advantage of since I was panic-stricken at the initial situation, I am a single woman with no plumbing knowledge; I also believe this out-right fraud.

In order to speak to a Live Person whether it's customer service or support you have to buy a support package. If you call their phone numbers it's COMPLETELY automated. I finally after 3 months got a fax # for their complaint department. I faxed a complaint letter, regarding the treatment we received from their tech support. The next day I received an email saying that they would no longer offer support for our company and that we would not be able to purchase any of the support packages!

HEY CENTRAL FLORIDA, WATCH THIS LANDSCAPER - (Charlie Walsh, Longwood, Florida)  My complaint is with the following company or individual as I am not sure his company is legitimate:

Mr. Cato contracted to perform specific landscape and re-sodding work and ended stealing over $1,231.55 from me for work not completed and plants not delivered and planted. Specifically, we contracted with Donald R. Cato on November 17, 2006 to clear away our old sod, prepare the yard for new sod, lay new sod, and landscape our front yard with pre-selected and pre-paid plants and bushes and trees. There were many problems and delays with stupid excuses including:

1: Originally contracted and paid in advance for Mr. Cato to provide the labor to clear away old sod. He was unable to do so and forced me to re-contract elsewhere to secure labor to so a job he was already paid to do.   He also failed to give me any credit for the $224.00 in labor costs I had prepaid him.

2: He then failed to secure the sod itself forcing me to contact a sod supplier and have the sod delivered myself at additional costs.

3: I also prepaid Mr. Cato to prepare the yard and install the new sod.  Again, he was unable to produce the labor required to so that I pre-paid and he was forced to install the sod himself. He then tried to collect fees for installation over and above what I agreed to and contracted for as he states his labor costs are greater than the laborers he was UNABLE to produce.

4: For several weeks, he indicated he had selected and pre-paid with my money all of the plants we had selected to go into our new yard. After multiple delays and excuses, I asked for the names of the nurseries where he did so. After contacting 2 nurseries where he indicated he had selected and pre-paid for all of our plants, totaling $1,231.55, both nurseries indicated they had never heard of Don Cato and he did not order anything from them whatsoever. He in affect stole the money from us!

This man called Donald R. Cato is a "_________________" and should be stopped. He has now wiped-out all of my savings and left us with a ruined yard. Please alert people in Central Florida to stay away from anyone doing work for or as Donald R. Cato or Don Cato, Sr. This man stole our savings and will not refund our money or install our plants.

What I want to have happen is a full refund of the $1,231.55 I paid Mr. Cato for all of the plants that were never ordered and never delivered/installed. I gave him a check for a total of $1,864.55 on November 17, 2006 and I had to pay an additional $1, 185.00 for Sod and an additional $350.00 for labor that I already paid Mr. Cato for doing.

WATCH DESERT SPRINGS HOSPITAL - (William Sheffield, Metairie, Louisiana)  On April 27th while my wife and I were on vacation in Las Vegas, my wife had to be rushed to Desert Springs Hospital because of a complication related to diabetes. During her hospital stay, we experienced a series a cascading mishaps and poor medical management. 

1. The hospital botched her blood work twice [and admitted it in writing following our visit via email], requiring us to go through two different hospital stays, additional medical expenses and much emotional stress. 

2. My wife developed a vein infection in her wrist that bothered her for over a month after the hospital stay. 

3. The ER doctor discharged my wife from the hospital knowing her blood work was dangerously out of acceptable ranges for platelet counts and white blood cell counts. 

4. Upon review of the test results by our family physician, she suggested that the doctor may have been negligent for discharging my wife. 

Our primary care physician at home instructed us to go directly to a reputable hospital. The hospital has offered to refund our $100 co-pay to us and the insurance agency for money received by Desert Springs, but we are out of an additional ~$2K of money wasted because of mistakes made by this hospital. The hospital responded by suggesting that we refused to have my wife's blood tested a second time, even though they did in fact test it a second time and their own paper work verifies that to be true. They also later stated that my wife refused to be admitted which is blatantly false. I have all of my correspondence and hospital paperwork carefully documented for your review, if needed. My main concern is that this is taken seriously so that it doesn't happen to others, and if possible, be reimbursed for moneys lost because of mistakes made by Desert Springs Hospital.

  WHAT GOES TGI FRIDAYS??? - (Anna Chapman, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania)  TGI Fridays in Mechanicsburg, Pa is a a rip - off.  They made a mistake on our debit card. They charged my girlfriend debit card to my account and my debit card to hers. when we called them to talk about there mistake they were rude. they said they fixed the debit amount mistake but later found out they did not fix it at all. I had to close my account fearing they would take more money out. The waiter was a pain in the butt kept coming over and bugging us while we were eating our meal. The manager was very rude and did not appologize at all for the mistake they made. I will never go back to TGI fridays again......

Cost averaging with utilities may not work for everyone - (Andrew Torok, Dekalf, Illinois) Nicor Solutions fixed bill program for household gas supply is a rip off. The idea is to pay a fixed amount per month all year. They raise your payment automatically at the end of a contract year unless you cancel. They claim to send a letter announcing the increase. However, if you do not receive the letter,you are still liable.  My gas bill is deducated automatically, thus i did not notice the significant increase which began in June 2006 and went for july and August. My bill jumped from $117 to $187.   I was 3 days into August when i noticed the increase. I called and they gave me a really hard time about dropping the program. I paid $187 for each of the summer months, even though i was only running the pilot light on the furnace. No other utilities are on gas. I still had to pay for the entire month of august as well. The bottom line is that consumers do not save money with the program. The company does not treat you fairly. The increases should happen only if you authorize them, not simply at their discretion. Even after calling back and asking to talk to a manager, they did not make any adjustments. I strongly advise anyone to avoid the program.

CONSUMERS BEWARE, ANOTHER COMPLAINT AGAINST ROTO-ROOTER - (Pat Bert, Fairborn, Oh) - Seems as though there are number of unhappy Roto-rooter customers.  I am also adding to the long list of complaints.  I was packing up to leave on a short business trip and noticed some water in my heating and air closet I also have a water softener there.  I called Roto Rooter because of the guarantee but little did I know I was in for a nightmare down ELM street with them.  The guy came DID NOT give me an estimate or explain what the PROBLEM was.  He just went on to run a snake down the drain located in the wall.  He said it was fixed and left. I left town on Monday and returned Saturday.  I cam home from work on Monday and noticed my Pergo floor was flooded and buckeled up.  I called the Roto Rooter company they sent two guys who worked like the keystone cops trying to locate the trap and could not find it.  They also dug up my landscaped yard to try to locate the trap.  NOT ONCE DID THEY CHECK THE DRAIN.  The foreman then came much later and did no better than they did even with a camera.  He left saying it must be the sewer or the city doing work that caused it must be sewer back up....I said thats interesting because the water is clear.  I was mad and said I would sue and I did not sign anything.  His boss sent the foreman back out the next day and he ran a camera down the drain and claimed since it was now clear there was no problem they have no liability since they cleared the drain.  The supervisor calls the next day who by the way was rude and loud and said I should file a claim against my insurance company for the damage.  I beleive that is fraud I said since it was negligence on Roto Rooter's part....I am sad to say I have a water damaged floor (3000 dollars)they have MY MONEY and I still have the problem.   The next step is another plumber who is qualified, a lawyer, and complaints to the BBB and postings like this one.

WHAT GOES WALSH ENGINEERING - (Sonia, San Diego, CA) - A few months ago my husband & I hired (Walsh Engineering 1870 Cordell Court, Suite 102, El Cajon CA 92020 619-588-6747 Fax 619-448-7132) to do a survey on our lot, his proposal was for less than $2500 but they did not complete the job and when we asked the company to complete the job that they were suppose to finish, the company billed us for additional $2400, and threatened to put a lien against our property forcing us to pay the additional $2400. They were very rude and unprofessional, and besides charging us double on what they proposed they also did not finish the job on time!

I hope all consumers who live in San Diego who are in need of a Surveyor or Engineer do not use Walsh Engineering and their affiliated companies as Walsh Engineering was referred to us by an excavation company whom were very aggressive and did not seem like honest people and Thank God we decided not to use them for our excavation job.

watch swepco, the electric company in shreveport, lOUISIANA!!  (Stacey Hooper, Bossier City, Louisiana)  We were late paying our electric bill but paid it on the internet several days prior to the turn off date.  The company shut our electricity off anyway!!  The bank called Swepco and verified the payment had been deducted from the account but Swepco's answer was, " To bad we haven't had time to credit it to your account and since it is an internet payment that could take a few more days, you'll have to bring in additional money to get the electricity turned on."  We had to take another $400.00 in even though they have a $600.00 deposit plus another $400.00 they hadn't had time to credit (Total of $1400.00).  The electricity was turned back on.  Typical insensitive, uncaring, attitude from a large company who could care less about customer service largely because they have "NO COMPETITION."

Let the consumer beware of contractors!!  (Douglas Hauk, Lantana, Florida)  Mr. Hauk alleges - ANDRYS I RODRIGUEZ took a $5000 deposit to remodel a house I own at 1242 Ridge Road South, in Palm Beach County, Florida.  ANDRYS I RODRIGUEZ was ordered to vacate premises by Palm Beach Code Endorsement since he had no license to operate as a contractor, and ANDRYS I RODRIGUEZ did not apply for any permits as required in Palm Beach County.  ANDRYS I RODRIGUEZ installed a front door, and installed concrete block. I removed the concrete block at the request of Palm Beach Code Endorsement. ANDRYS I RODRIGUEZ will not return deposit less cost of the Front Door and installation.  A & A PAINTERS & HOME REPAIR,INC., 106 EAST. 11 STREET, MIAMI FL 33010.  Tip:  Do not pay contractors in advance for materials or work.  If the contractor is in good standing with his bank and other suppliers, he will have a credit line and be able to purchase the materials.  He may require a deposit to begin work which is acceptable.  Never pay in advance!!!!

hello roto rooter, again! (Ray Owens, Cincinnati, Ohio)  My home in Cincinnati had a blocked drain on Dec. 16, 2002, and I called Roto-Rooter for help. A Roto-Rooter technician, using cables with cutting tools, attempted unsuccessfully to clear our drains. He charged me $150 for this (which I paid immediately) and recommended we call in an expert with a location camera. Later that day a Roto-Rooter master plumber used a camera and tracking device to determine there might be a problem 8 to 10 feet below ground level directly under our garage floor, possibly at or near a Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) sewer main. The Roto-Rooter master plumber told me our only option was to dig up the line, and that we needed to move out of the house until that was done, because we couldn't use the sinks, bathtubs, or toilets. On Dec. 18, two Roto-Rooter people began excavation and disconnected our drain pipe at an elbow just a foot or two below ground level, releasing a flood of sewage into my garage, driveway, and back yard. The Roto-Rooter people called me and told me I had a "disaster" at my house and that I needed to call MSD to clear the line. They told me they tried to run a cable in to clear the line but could not. I called MSD and the next day, Dec. 19, MSD sent a crew who cleared the line in about an hour. MSD camera work showed the original block was in the main sewer, and that the main sewer was badly in need of repair at several locations, including where my tap was located. The main sewer pipe was clogged with roots and several sections had separated and shifted, and my tap was broken. Now Roto-Rooter is billing me $2942.01, even though all they did was open a 2 ft. wide by 4 ft. long by 2 ft. deep hole in my garage floor and open the pipe to release a flood of sewage into my garage, driveway, and back yard. (They may even have broken my sewer tap, which was found to be broken by camera only after the lines were cleared of the block.) MSD has now replaced all the sewer pipes in the area and repaired our tap into the sewer. I believe Roto-Rooter should have told me to involve MSD on Dec. 16, and unnecessarily cost me and my family four nights in a hotel and a lot of inconvenience and aggravation. I believe they should void the bill they gave us and pay our expenses for the time we were unnecessarily out of our house. The Roto-Rooter people waited until we had a disaster on Dec. 18 to inform me I should contact MSD to get a sewer line checked and cleared, even though the problem appeared to be at or in a sewer main, and an independant contractor and another plumber have both told me Roto-Rooter should know to call before they dig in such situations. I've tried to get Roto-Rooter to work with me on this, but they do not seem able to see my side of the question. I've tried complaining to the Better Business Bureau asking for help to arrange arbitration or mediation, but Roto-Rooter ignored that request. I sued Roto-Rooter for my out of pocket expenses, and they counter-sued for the amount of their bill, and now it is in the hands of the attorneys. MAYBE ROTO ROOTER SHOULD STICK TO ROOTING!  (Keith Wahl, Essex, Connecticut)  This is regarding Roto Rooter out of Windsor, CT. The invoice numbers are 03610091397 & 03610091162.   On 11/11/2002, there was a faulty installation of a sump pump by Eddie Ruiz. The result was a partially flooded basement on 11/17. I (the customer) had to affect repair such that the pump worked properly and pumped out the basement (immediate action taken on my part to preserve and protect property). There was resulting damage of stored items and I worked the better part of that Sunday effecting repairs.  On 11/18, the same person installed a water filter. The isolation valves are such that they do not shut off. I have stopped payment on the check for that installation. The company says that any installation will be blocked either by filter or the beam above... I merely want a solution that works. Also upon installing a water heater on 11/11, I had to help this same technician to remove the water heater from the basement and had to diagnose electrical problems due to broken romex cable (broken during installation).

I have been told at this point by one of the managers at Roto-Rooter that the valves installed to isolate the filter are not necessary. If this is true, why were they installed in the first place or was I sold unnecessary items? Logically, they are necessary and should operate for their intended purpose... if the isolation valves cannot work in that environment, then a different solution (one that works) is necessary).  I have been also told by this management that the damage to basement items was my own fault for having the items there. The fact that they installed a pump that I needed to fix to preserve and protect property seems not to enter into their mind at all.

Sounds to us like poor customer service, whittier paving!  (Paul Wells, Haverhill, Mass.) I had a new driveway in April 2002 installed by Whittier Paving of Salisbury, Ma. I received a 2 year warranty on it. Within 2-3 weeks the top of the driveway began to come up. Over the next 6 1/2 months and 20 phone calls I tried to have them come back and repair the driveway. Several times I was told they would show up and they never would. Now I am being told to wait another 6 months for the spring. It would have taken a couple of hours to repair in my estimation. I was also told that I need to have the driveway sealed, which I found out was incorrect, it needed to be repaired prior to any sealing to be done. I was also told that it was normal to have some of the driveway come up, which I also found out was a lie. Whittier Paving showed up the second week of October and sealed the driveway after I spoke with the owner and told him to fix it first, don't seal it. Some of the sealer has since washed away and my driveway is still in need of repair. It is now October 22nd 2002, this all started on April 10th 2002. I have just started the process of putting in several complaints about this company.

Dead River gas company strikes a blow to consumer loyalty - (Larry Moore, Bath, Maine)  Just wanted to give you a little consumer news. I have been a propane customer of the Dead River Company for 10 plus years now and have just received a certified letter telling me they now longer desire me as a customer. Upon placing a call to their Brunswick Maine office and speaking to Dead River's office manager, I was told that I do not use enough of their product to warrant them delivering to me any longer. Had it been left at that I would have been fine with that decision but, the office manager went on to say that if I wanted to rent/lease their tank at 75.00 per year then I could remain a Dead River customer. Not only is this poor customer service but I feel this reeks of extorsion and arm twisting...and furthermore they've given me 20 days to find a new supplier which after making a few calls to other propane providers is next to impossible to meet that deadline. Nonetheless after placing another call and explaining to the office manager my dilemna..the final word was that they will be removing my tank, regardless, in 20 days. I fully realize that 75.00 per year doesn't sound like a lot of money but if we spread that across at least a 1000 customers like myself how much money does Dead River stand to make, and where does that leave us poor consumers. utility company takes a hard line - (Ana Scaccio, Belvidere, Illinois)  I am writing about Nicor Gas Company.  These utility companies are just interested in money and not interested in  the consumer. My gas was shut off because I did not receive the shut off notice.  Their computer stated that it did send out the notice.  Now I have to pay half of the bill and it will take up to three days to turn the gas back on!  In my eyes the consumer is wrong and they are right!

contractor bankruptcy's  leave consumers high and dry and with less money - (Lori Cohen, Tenafly, New Jersey)  Being victimized by contractors. Recently I hired a contractor, Garrit Greer of Garrit Construction, to renovate my home. Within 1 week he made a mess of my house and then filed chapter 7 bankruptcy. I now have dirt and debris piled up in my backyard, mud and water in the basement and bugs that come into my house. I have yet to find another contractor to finish the work.  Make sure you check out contractors prior to entrusting them with a contract to work on your home.  Additionally, you might ask for a "Bank Reference Letter," to establish credibility and a quick check with the Better Business Bureau.  If the contractor is willing to finance the job until completion, it is a positive indication he is financially stable.

The "Trane" has left the passengers at the gate - (R. Van Laanen, Marietta, Georgia) The Trane Company, home heating and air conditioning equipment, along with local contractor, All-Tech Heating and Air, installed unit in my home assuring 40-50% reduction in energy use with new 1200 Series. It has failed to perform and they refuse to do anything about it. It has been a running battle with them for over 3 years now. Sent complaint to state licensing board and they have been sitting on it for some 6 months! All I can say is, "Don't get hit by a Trane!"

is national prescription service a scam?  (Concerned consumer)  Back in May of 2002, I saw an advertisement on the cable TV Guide Channel for discount prescriptions for the entire family for $29.95 per month. I subscribed since I do have to take maintenance drugs. They began taking out the $29.95 per month in June sending me a card stating coverage was effective 6/1/02. I have since tried to use this "Discount" card but to no avail.  The meds are MORE expensive with this "Discount" plan. I have tried to contact the company for 2 months now, but they are never in the office (which is supposed to be open-M-F--9 to 5) I have left numerous messages and as of yet haven't received a return call. A couple of their phone #'s are "Not in service" the only one that I was able to get through to is (973)439-0903. The company name is: National Prescription Services Inc. Address: 295 Rt.46 West, Fairfield, NJ 07004. I have left messages that I would call an attorney if they do not respond, and still they do not respond.  I have two contact names: Jerry Hugg, and Ken Fessler. I have contacted my bank to have them stop allowing the automatic payment of funds to these people...and I was told that they are the only ones that can cancel that function. So here I am, disabled and  giving my money away  for what?? Another scam...offered to desperate people that are just trying to afford medication that they need?? I am at my wits end I don't know where to turn for help. This is really my last hope before I have to pay an attorney which will put MORE of a burden on my household.  I am completely serious when I say that if I had an extra $30. a month to just give away...I would MUCH rather give it to an honest Charity such as Childrens Cancer research or something similar,  or for that matter spend it on my OWN 4 children, than give it to some SCAM ARTISTS so they have more money to spend on THEIR kids!! I am hoping and praying that someone will be able to help me with this problem....I am sure that I cannot be the only one that was suckered into this situation.

Is this a roto-rooter ripoff? - (Helen Corbett, Cincinnati, Ohio) On 7/31/02 I contacted RotoRooter for service on a shower drain that was clogged. Serviceman was dispatched and estimate given of 166.95 (invoice #05510463050). After several minutes and much mess later, this technician left informing us that another technician would be coming to "try to unclog the drain". Shortly afterward the second technician arrived and informed us that the drain could not be unclogged, and that we would have to have the bathroom floor "torn up" so that the shower pan and pipes could be replaced. His written estimate for this is indicated on the bill as $2800. The bill for this service, which never did open the drain was 102.95. A certified plumber was contacted and the drain was cleard (subsequent to this rotorooter attempt) without the costly work that the rotorooter technician indicated was needed. Had we not contacted the plumber for a second opinion, we would have been out considerably more money.
